.ddn Command
Table of ContentsIndex

You can use the .ddn command to send mail to a user through the Internet.

When you use the .ddn command, the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service virtual machine removes the actual .ddn command from the copies of the mail it sends to the Internet users.

(Another method to send mail to an Internet user is to simply specify the Internet style address, for example Jane_Johnson@Sterling.com, in the To field and not use the .ddn command.)

The Text fields on the New Note page and the Reply to Note page accept the .ddn command.

The Purpose field on the Send a Meeting Notice page accepts the .ddn command.

The format of the .ddn command is:

.ddn TCPhost(TCPuserid)

TCPhost
TCP/IP host. This is the system to which you want to send the note.
TCPuserid
a specific userid on the TPC/IP host.

For example, in the Internet address Jane_Johnson@Sterling.com, Jane_Johnson is the userid and Sterling.com is the host; therefore, the .ddn command must specify: .ddn Sterling.com(Jane_Johnson).

You can specify more than one addressee on a single .ddn command. Use a blank space to separate the addressees from each other, as follows:

.ddn TCPhost1(TCPuserid1) TCPhost2(TCPuserid2)

When you enter a .ddn command, you must start typing in the first column of any row in the field. You can only use lowercase letters. Do not include any blank spaces within an address, and do not type any note text on the same line as the command.

Examples

The following examples show how to specify an Internet address using the .ddn command:

Note: If your Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service virtual machine is something other than SMTP, then, in addition to using the .ddn command, you must specify your SMTP machine name in the To field.
